9.4.3 Perform an investigation to model Patueur’s experiment to identify the role of microbes in decay.
This web resource was linked through the NSW HSC Online and Charles Sturt University http://hsc.csu.edu.au/biology/core/better_health/9_4_3/943net.html. It is a good resource that presents the background information and history from behind the practical in the introduction. The animation then has options in both the auditory, literal and visual sense, catering for many learning styles. Throughout the animation tab 2 quiz questions are presented to test the student on what they think will happen. The conclusion exposes students to the results and significance of Pasteur’s experiments and finally there is a short quiz for students to participate.

However it does go into greater detail regarding Redi’s experiment and the theory of spontaneous generation. I like how this link breaks both of the experiments represented into 4 components being Observations, Questions, Hypothesis and Conclusion. It allows the student to clearly identify and recognise these and the experiments development and purpose. It is again good for a variety of learners being visual and auditory. The visual stimuli are clear and an easy to follow representation.
Both of these links model Pasteur's experiment in a clear and concise manner that allow students to identify the purpose and the role of microbes in decay.

ReplyDeleteThere are plenty of resources in the internet. The job is to find the right one that matches our content, target skills and finally students' interest. Having a animation or simulation software as a tool makes the lesson interesting as well as easy for the students to understand. We must use online resources as our teaching tool because students' life is all about technology these days.
Again, we have to apply our website evaluating skills to make that students are using the right type of resources. And during the class as teachers we have to keep track on what every body is doing with their laptop,making sure nobody is distracted.

ReplyDeleteI liked the animations. From the students point of view it makes it easier if textual information is aided by visual prompts. I did find the animation in the 2nd web source a little slow, but other than that you had 2 good resources that presented a good explanation of Pasteur's investigation into spontaneous generation. For the dot point are students supposed to perform a 1st hand investigation or a 2nd hand investigation?
